To qualify for state an athlete would need to have his or her lifts add up to a specific qualifying mark. These marks are based on weight class and gender. Once a qualifying mark is achieved, an athlete is eligible for the state meet in March. You must qualify for Nationals @ State in March to compete OR have met the qualifying total at a USAPL sanctioned meet. We run a meet on Saturday July 9th 2011at Kalahari and this would qualify you for Nationals for the following season.
TEN IMPORTANT THINGS FOR YOU TO KNOW ABOUT POWERLIFTING
- This sport will give you a tremendous amount back if you put something in – you will feel better, be stronger and feel an amazing sense of satisfaction and accomplishment
- Your body will be sore – workouts are tough and grueling but they will get easier on your body as time passes – takes 2 weeks of hard work for soreness to subside
- This sport requires you go to competitions – if you are here just to lift some weights occasionally, or you had nothing better to for today’s activity period, you are in the wrong place. We train you to get you to meets and get better – this will involve loads of work on your part and ours.
- You must attend 4 practices per week to do this sport. Taking days off wont keep you on the team. We want kids who will show up and put in the time – hope that is you (you know already if it is)
- Grades matter, what you do in the community matters and your behavior at school matters – this is a sport and is treated like one based on our rules
- This year you can earn a letter in powerlifting – we have our own letter and requirements that are in our team rules. This will be discussed further at a later meeting.
- This sport requires you to pay close attention to your eating habits and demands a certain level of self-discipline and self control to be competitive.
- We have attendance policies and we are taking our program to another level and we want you along for the ride. You need to be accountable to our high standards at practice, meets and in the community.
- We want you to understand that getting stronger takes effort and resilience and neither of those skills comes without sacrifice. Kids who make those sacrifices will find themselves being coached well and often.
- We are interested in making you better in all capacities – your mind, your body, your spirit, and your character. Give us a chance and we will grow together to make a strong team with strong traditions and pride.
